The founder of financial tech company Block Inc., Jack Dorsey announced he is collaborating with the rapper Jay-Z by launching a Bitcoin Academy in Brooklyn. The Bitcoin Academy’s mission aims to empower and provide education to the region. The project’s website further details that residents of Marcy House, located in Brooklyn, New York will be eligible for free courses and other benefits like internet data plans.

Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of and co-founder of Twitter and the founder of Block Inc., announced on Thursday that he has partnered with the popular rap artist Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) in order to launch a Bitcoin Academy.

“Mr. [Shawn Carter] and I are funding The Bitcoin Academy, a program for residents of Marcy Houses in Brooklyn New York where Jay grew up,” Dorsey tweeted. The Block founder further explained that the project was also bolstered by Crypto Blockchain Plug (Najah J. Roberts) and Black Bitcoin Billionaire (Lamar Wil

soon e).

The academy aims to provide financial education to empower the community, and the course emphasises Bitcoin as a path to financial freedom. The academy will feature free in-person and online classes by Lamar Wilson, who runs the content site Black Bitcoin Billionaire, and Najah J. Roberts, the founder and CEO of Crypto Blockchain Plug.

The classes will run twice per week, starting in late June through September. The programme participants will be provided smartphones, MiFi devices and a one-year data plan. There’s also a weekend program called "crypto kids camp".

Block and Jay-Z's charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation, will help with on-the-ground instruction.

Shawn Corey Carter, aka Jay-Z, grew up in the Marcy Houses in the impoverished neighbourhood of Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The rapper announced on Twitter that he and Dorsey were going to give back to his childhood home by creating the Bitcoin Academy.
